Paper Money

My third invention was paper money. Paper money was invented in the early nineth century. It took 850 years to travel to the west. Even when it did travel to the west it was not untill the late seventeenth century that they acually started to use it. The origanal name for paper money was really "flying money". This name came from the fact that if you put a piece of paper on you hand on a windy day it would just fly right off of it. When the idea of paper money first can out it really was just a draft saying that this person, turned in this many coins, at this place. The exchange of paper didn't start up untill the tenth century. Paper money started in the Tang Dynasty but did not become a goverment thought untill the Song Dynasty. There were two main reasons that paper money cought on so fast; it was light and easier to carry, the copper and iron that the people had been saving up could be used to make household items. Although we know alot about the paper money and how it was used at the time after the Yuan Dynasty, there are no records of drafts from before then. When Explorer Marco Polo traveled to China he said, " I tell you that poeple are glad to take these tokens...they can use them to buy and sell as if they were pure gold." The reason that i chose paper money as one of my inventions is because without it we would still be carrying around big block of copper, iron, silver, and gold. I know from close reletives that carrying around a heavy bag or purse can seriusly injure your back. The one thing that most people dont want is a bad back at a very young age!
